In October 2022, the Geopositioning Commission of the Conseil national de l’information géolocalisée commissioned its GNSS and Positioning Working Group to organize an online survey, with the aim of “better understanding the uses of the European satellite positioning system Galileo and the services it offers in the French user community”.

The questionnaire was drawn up in 2023 and put online on the government’s collaborative platform Resana between January 22 and February 29, 2024. A first set of questions aimed to find out more generally about respondents’ needs and usual practices. The second part dealt more specifically with the use of Galileo in positioning methods, the hardware and software developments required to achieve this, and Galileo’s contributions. Finally, the questionnaire looked at the level of awareness of the various services offered by Galileo, as well as the importance of the European and independent nature of the Galileo system.

The results of the survey show that Galileo has clearly entered into the habits of the user community targeted by the questionnaire, and elaborates some suggestions to fill some of the gaps identified by respondents.
